The fashion world that is.

Honestly, I would be lying if I said I loved fashion from day one. I really didn’t like dressing up in the frilly dresses my mom would buy me, but I really had no say since I was like four. When I got older, I went through the tomboy phase that just about every girl inevitably goes through; I was more a fan of cargo shorts than capri pants. I vowed I would never sell out like my older sister and own a Louis Vuitton bag. I thought they were ugly. But my how things change with time. Once I entered high school, my world view changed and so did my appreciation for style.

At first, I’ll admit I was label obsessed. I still am a little. It started with Abercrombie and C&C and evolved into Alice + Olivia and Chloe. Now, I’m finding a nice in between. I love mixing and matching, high end and low end. On an average day, you’ll find me sporting my Subversive for Target necklace with a Kensie dress and vintage boots. I love shopping at American Apparel as much as I love Barneys and Bergdorf.

And yes, I did give in and buy a Louis Vuitton bag. Well, three actually.

I still yearn for that vintage Chanel Jacket and covet the insane Gucci heels that are to die for, but I’m always happy with what I find and wear. One day, I’ll have that thousand dollar dress from the up-and-coming designer featured in WWD and In Style. Until then, I’m loving my combo of Forever 21, J Crew, and Tory Burch. I mean, with such beautiful things, how can I stick to one brand?

When it comes to blogging about fashion, I know I’m no expert, but I’d do something along the lines of “Looks for Less.” I’d find take the pieces from desginers I love the most and find the cheaper, but smiliar and good looking alternative. Simple as that. Lots of blogs already do this, but I would do it bigger and better because it’s something that relates to me, especially during this economic low in our country. I mean, as much as I would love to spend $400 on my dress for invite, I can’t. So why not find something just as nice but for way less the price?

For this project, I have a couple interviews that Nikki and I took at Pasadena Kidspace Pumpkin Fair. The  photos are courtesy of the L.A. Times. I took these elements and assembled them into a simple multimedia package using Flash.

My heart always skips a beat though when I watch Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

I know. What a cliche that a girl likes this movie. Honestly though, it hits me somewhere every time I watch it. How beautiful Audrey is. How handsome George Peppard is. The simplicity of it all – Holly not wanting to grow up, not wanting to have any obligations or belong to anyone or anything. To live life without any cares. I think all of us have the desire to live our lives exactly that way, myself included. Even though Holly is very go lightly (pun intended) she is still exudes a confidence that I wish I was bold enough to embrace. She doesn’t belong to anyone or anything, until that perfect anyone Paul aka Fred comes along.

And the clothes. This movie will be forever marked in fashion historic as iconic. The look of diamonds, the little black dress, a chic bun and wayfarers? That look will always be fashion gold in any designers book. Givenchy’s classic LBD is something I will own one day – what could be more classy? Well, maybe the fact that she’s drenched in diamonds…

The movie is all about finding your true love, which I’m a sap for. Henry Mancini sang it best in the movie’s theme song, “Moon River”:

“Moon river wider than a mile, I’m crossing you in style some day. Oh dream maker, you heart breaker. Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way. Two drifters off to see the world. There’s such a lot of world to see. We’re after the same rainbows and waiting around the bend, my huckleberry friend. Moon River and me.”
